The Challenge For Online Educators
Online education has come a long way. Gains are constantly being made. One of the best features of the internet is that there is a wealth of pioneers that have blazed a trail ahead of us.
Online learning is an art. With all art, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Some students need the rigor and discipline that comes with traditional brick and mortar classrooms. The patterns that are developed are necessary for students to grapple with and eventually succeed over.
One of the many things that students can come to achieve is to look for new ways of learning, and not be afraid of freedom to choose any of these ways.
When we are behind the door and we only have a tiny portal to look through, the other side can seem really tiny and foreign. The job of teachers is to bring light to the other side of the door, to show students that there is much more that can be gleaned from abandoning some of the traditional forms of education they have grown accustomed to. There are good and bad points to online education. It is the job of all teachers to ensure that all options are open to students.
An appreciation for in person learning was gained with the research on online learning. Reading non-verbal signals is something that is overlooked when teaching in person. Learning about the advantages of the F2F model can lead to improvements in online education, and online learning can eliminate or lessen the need to rely on heavy tomes.
